Does great treasure give you real peace?

I get so saddened when I hear that someone takes their life because of personal problems. Many of them seem to have an idyllic life. They have fame, fortune, influence. They are considered “cool” among their friends and colleagues. Yet, behind the scenes, they are experiencing great trouble. After having achieved the “American dream,” they thought that all of their troubles would go away. They now realize that they have new and greater troubles. Proverbs 15:16 says: “Better is a little with the fear of the Lord, than great treasure with trouble.” Could it be that we have been chasing after the wrong things for happiness sake? Could it be that it’s better to not worry about accumulating things? Jesus said that the Father knows what we have need of. Most are busy chasing after things, yet God reminds us to seek His Kingdom first, and the rest of those “things” shall be added to us. Oh God, give us only those things that would benefit us, and keep us from chasing things that will only give us great trouble in the end!

Phillipians 4:13Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content: I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
