As we get closer to the Thanksgiving Day celebrations, it’s vital for us to do a personal assessment to see if we are truly thankful, or are we just celebrating another holiday. King David wrote in Psalm 69:30 – “I will praise the name of God with a song, And will magnify Him with thanksgiving.” It wasn’t a holiday for him. It was a lifestyle of gratitude for Who God is and for all that God has done for us. For the believer, thanksgiving should be a daily reality and practice. Psalm 136:1 says: “Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.” In Phillipians 4: verses 6 and 7, the Apostle Paul penned this powerful truth: “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” So in all our celebrations, let’s make sure we are being thankful to God. Don’t get lost in the holiday rush and pressure. Enjoy this time with family and friends, and make sure God is at the center of your celebrations. Selah.
