Is your gratitude genuine?

Yesterday, we shared that the scriptures teach that we are to be thankful at all times. Today I wanted to share a second important principle found in Hebrews 13:5. And that is: True thankfulness is a worthy and willing sacrifice.

Let’s look at that verse again: Hebrews 13:5 (Amplified version)
“Through Him, therefore, let us at all times offer up to God a SACRIFICE of praise, which is the fruit of lips that thankfully acknowledge and confess and glorify His name”

Notice that the writer calls it a sacrifice. In today’s thinking, many see a sacrifice a something one has to do. They don’t want to do it, but since it has to be done, they do it just to get it out of the way. Scriptural sacrifice is something that is costly, but it is a willing action that one does to God in a posture of gratitude and humility, acknowledging God’s Goodness and Mercy.

King David said he would never offer anything to God that didn’t cost him anything. His sacrifices had value and worth, and acknowledged God’s goodness and majesty.

According to Hebrews 13:5, our sacrifice of praise is the fruit of our lips that thankfully acknowledge, confess and glorify His Name! So this kind of sacrifice is actually part of our praise to God. Our thankfulness is a type of sacrifice of praise. This involves the praise that comes from our lips as well as a lifestyle and daily discipline that reveals His Goodness to everyone around us. So once again I ask, is your gratitude and thankfulness genuine? Something to really consider in this month that focuses on Thanksgiving!
