Proverbs 8:7 (NCV) says: “What I say is true, I refuse to speak evil.” The Proverbist was declaring that his lips would only speak truth. Truth can be you being completely honest. It is also when you speak the word of God, because God’s word is truth. The Lord Jesus is also “the Truth”. (John 14:6) Everyone will tell you what they believe to be the truth from their perspective, but when they are confronted with the actual truth, they see that they were mistaken. But when we go to the word of God, you are reading pure truth without no deception. Deception comes from the wicked one. Today, there are many that will combine part-truth with part-deception. You can see that in today’s marketing programs, in politics and in religion. Subtle deception has become almost normal and expected. However, our godly DNA refuses to allow this kind of communication. Proverbs 8:7 in the New Living Translation adds: “For I speak the truth and detest every kind of deception.” The Proverbist was saying that he refused to speak evil, and part of evil was deception. As God’s people, let us embrace this principle and lifestyle. Let our words reflect God’s truth, and in so doing, highlight only that which is pure, just, holy, and of good report! Remember, you are the light of the world, so let your light shine in the midst of darkness and confusion so that people would see your light and come out to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ our Lord! (Matthew 5:16)
