Unrealistic Demands and Desires — You must take note of this
Every one of us has dreams and desires. And it has been said that we should dream big and expect great things in our lives. Nevertheless, this expectation should be tempered by being real with who you are, your personality, character and life situation. It is wise and beneficial to study and educate yourself, but you cannot expect to earn a doctorate in six months. It is beneficial to want to lose weight; however, it is unrealistic to try losing one hundred pounds in three months.
Unrealistic demands and desires can produce discouragement as well as disillusionment. For a leader, this can destroy his or her business and ministry future. Many have a tendency to want things accomplished right away, but this is a mistake. We have to temper vision with patience; accomplishment with proactive planning; and success with proper preparation and dedication.
There are various areas that we must consider as we prepare to achieve the things that we want to accomplish in life, business and ministry. Even though it is impossible to build a multimillion dollar company in one month, we can consistently build our company over a course of ten to thirty years. Time will help us if we take incremental steps towards achieving our life’s goals and desires. While we may not be able to save one million dollars in a year, we can do it in twenty to thirty years by consistently putting aside a certain amount of money and properly investing a portion of every dollar we earn.
The Benefits of Time Management
Learn to take advantage of the gift of time. In one of his weekly e-mails, John Assaraf wrote this about the gift of time:
“There is a bank that credits your account each morning with $86,400. The balance does not carry over from day to day. Every evening deletes whatever part of the balance you failed to use during the day. What would you do? Draw out ALL OF IT, of course!!!!
Each of us has such a bank. Its name is TIME. Every morning, it credits you with 86,400 seconds. Every night it writes off, as lost, whatever of this you have failed to invest to good purpose. The balance does not carry over. It allows no overdraft. Each day it opens a new account for you. Each night it burns the remains of the day. If you fail to use the day’s deposits, the loss is yours.
There is no going back. There is no drawing against the ‘tomorrow‘. You must live in the present on today’s deposits. Invest it so as to get from it the utmost in health, happiness, and success! The clock is running. Make the most of today.”
“The plans of the diligent lead surely to plenty, But those of everyone who is hasty, surely to poverty.” — Prov 21:5 (NKJV)
“Desire without knowledge is not good, and to be overhasty is to sin and miss the mark.”(Author’s emphasis) — Prov 19:2
From this moment on, temper your desires with a good dose of reality. Great visions take time. Use your time wisely!
