The gift of Mother!

In 2 Timothy 1, the Apostle Paul celebrated his protégé’s strong faith. He called him a son in the faith. He was proud of his spiritual son’s work in the Kingdom of God. He was looking forward to seeing him in the near future. He said that this would bring great joy to him.

But if you look in verse 5, there is a powerful reason behind Timothy’s faith. It was the fact that his mother and grandmother raised him in the faith. They lovingly taught young Timothy the word of God and gave him the training that allowed him to become a worthy co-laborer to the Apostle Paul. Timothy would go on to become a pastor and apostle himself in his later years. Part of this great ministry and legacy was the impact that his mother had on him.

Today, we celebrate all of these precious mothers who have sacrificed on behalf of their families so that everyone would have all of their needs met. We honor the mothers who raise their children with integrity and teach them to be upright citizens with a strong work ethic and faith in God. We rejoice in the gift that is called “Mother”.

2 Timothy 1:5

“When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also.”

  1. Amen. Not only does God love like our mother, but we experience God’s love in our mother’s love. Mother is an image of God, an icon of God’s presence, a window into God’s mystery, a tangible embrace of God’s gentleness. God, as a mother, loves us into being and embraces us with Her kindness.
